Job Description Communities and Families School Support Assistant Drummond Community High School Salary: 16,287 – 18,316 (pro rata for part-time and sessional) Hours: 20 per week, term-time only (39 weeks per year) Drummond CHS are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic person to join the Home Economics department in highly valued support role. The successful candidate should have experience working in an active and practical support role, be computer literate and have great organisational skills. The role involves assisting in the preparation of practical lessons, some administrative support and more general support around the department to ensure areas and equipment are clean, tidy and organised for lessons. Whilst not a direct role supporting pupils, the successful candidate must have a caring and sensitive approach to the needs of the pupils. Great communication and organisational skills are essential along with the ability to work to deadlines and use your initiative. The successful candidate will largely work without close supervision so they should be diligent and conscientious in their work ethic. The post is 20 hours a week term time. Whilst the hours are required in the morning the actual pattern is negotiable for the right candidate. We envisage Mon – Fri 8am to 12pm or Mon – Thurs 8am to 1pm. This role does involve a smaller support role in the wider school, specifically supporting PE with the washing of sports kit and occasional assistance to other SSA colleagues within Drummond to undertake some pastoral support tasks. Therefore the successful candidate will be flexible and supportive to the needs of the school. This post is considered regulated work with vulnerable children and/or Protected Adults under the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by City of Edinburgh Council. The City of Edinburgh Council applies a Living Wage allowance to ensure that all employees earn at least 9.07 per hour. Successful applicants will be paid the hourly rate as advertised, plus the allowance, in order to bring their earnings to 9.07 per hour.
