The Global Head of Strategy for our will be accountable for leading the Strategy department on our key Flagship client GSK, which spans the Global & US markets. Delivering strategic insights, workshop development and analytics and to deliver quality projects that support the successful launch of global pharmaceutical products across a range of our clients brands. Leading and managing a team of planners, engagement, expert and brand strategists on GSK business.

The role has two dotted line reports –

  • to the Head of Strategy for McCann Health London
  • to the Global Chief Strategy Officer for McCann Global Health

Strategy Development

  • The role is two fold: 80% Client focussed & 20% Agency focussed
  • Lead and operating at Global Brand Marketing lead level. Develop client brand strategy for their franchises to build our client brands, create business opportunities and supports business growth.
  • Lead and oversee end-to-end projects from unpicking the brief through to workshop moderation, strategic development, analytics and reporting.
  • Development and implementation of McCann proprietary process and tools and of other complementary processes and techniques to ensure we offer the most relevant, effective and competitive planning service (full training will be provided as necessary)
  • Delivery of consistency of use of processes across all parts of the agency to ensure a collective understanding of the tools and processes used with the strategy planning process.
  • Provide best in class consultancy on how best to achieve business and brand goals for clients.
  • The strategic ‘stewardship’ of a London Global strategic Client team & MCH
  • Working with the Head of Strategy on implementing Strategic prowess and calibre of talent as per the Head of Strategy’s vision & growth plan

Thought Leadership

  • An agency ambassador and thought leader in the industry and to our flagship Client
  • Working with the GBL at building strong relationships with pivotal senior clients of the department and management of planning staff, working closely with cross-functional teams (US and Japan are key markets) where appropriate on brand programmes.

Leadership & Direction

  • Contribute to the vision, direction and efficient and profitable running of the Flagship client, as a key member of the Executive Team.
  • Provide visible, motivational and decisive leadership across the Strategy team.
  • Lead and inspire in a way that engages people in the McCann brand and retains people within the organisation.
  • Set the highest standards in terms of leadership behaviours; support a culture of diversity and inclusion; respect for others, collaboration, responsibility and accountability.
  • Drive a culture of high performance across the business; through effective line management and leadership, ensure high quality selection, training, development and performance management of all line reports.
  • Lead and inspire the creative team in a way that engages people to be creative and deliver outstanding creative work.
  • Coach and mentor strategy team and creative team to support their development strategicall and creatively.

Required:

  • A proven track record (at least 10 years or equivalent) in planning within ‘top tier’ marketing communication agencies including significant experience of planning for health brands.
  • Must have worked at an international and multi-market level.
  • Proven case histories and definable business results, creative or effectiveness awards, testimonials from clients.
  • Leadership skills; able to build, mentor and develop high performing teams.
  • Experience of working within a multi-national company, able to quickly pick up and follow systems and processes.
  • Cross medium creative awareness and understanding of new technologies.
  • Be confident and articulate in front of senior clients and large audiences.
  • Must know what it takes to win pitches and build trust and respect of the Planning team and wider agency departments.

Desirable:

  • Educated to at least Bachelor’s degree level in a health related discipline.
  • Understanding of consumer health planning in addition to prescription brand (rx) planning.
