How To Add a New Location/Place in Google Maps From Any Device

The secret of Google Maps how it gives you the up-to-date place listing is contribution. Anyone can become a contributor for free and add a missing place/location/business on Google maps. Google cannot really make maps data accurate without contributors who timely add, edit or delete places from Google maps. As a new contributor, your edits will not publish instantly, it will reviewed and take some time to approve.

Since 2008, Map maker is the service which allows anyone to add places in Google maps, but now it is going to retire and the functionality is now available directly in Google maps. Add a new location through a desktop/computer

Follow the steps below:

1. Go to maps.google.com and sign in with a Google account.
   
2. Search a location/area where you want to add a new place/business.
3. Right-click over a place and select ‘Add a missing place’.
   
4. Fill up the place name and other such information. (Remove ‘//’ from website field if you don’t have any website)
   
5. Submit the details and it will publish soon.

You will receive an email when the listing goes published on Maps. If you want to make any changes to your listings such as add business hours and photos, simply go to left-hand Menu > Your contributions > Edits. As a contributor , you can write a review for your added places. Reviews make place visibility up in Google maps and search too.

Add a new location through a mobile device

Use the Google Maps app on your Android or iOS device and start contributing. Please update your app to the latest version before starting.

Follow the steps below:

1. Open Maps app on your mobile device.
2. Search and go to the location/area where you want to add a new place.
3. Touch and holdover a place for a few seconds.
   
4. Slide over Dropped pin and select ‘Add a missing place’.
   
5. Fill up the place information and other such fields.
   
6. Add photos to make it more relevant.
7. Click the send icon and you’ve done.

You’ll get a mobile notification and an email too when the listing goes published. After that you can edit, modify or delete your contributions from Maps app > Your contributions > Edits.
