We are pleased to unveil a new company in the industry. This is a 5D Sensing company. The company, founded last year by Roni El Bachar, is developing innovative CMOS sensors that allow the use of smart cameras for smart and safe city applications.
Dr. Roni El Bachar, the company’s founder, is a veteran in the chip industry. He began his career in the industry as early as 2002. After completing his doctorate at the Technion, he joined Intel as an analog engineer. In 2004 he joined Transchip, a company that develops mobile phone cameras. Two years later the company was acquired by Samsung and Roni continued to work at Samsung’s development center as a development manager and project manager. In early 2012 he returned to Intel to lead the development of the camera for Intel’s perceptual computing applications. He later held various management positions, most of which involved the development of camera sensors. In his last position before the establishment of 5D sensing, he was the CTO for high-speed optical communication interfaces, at Networks Toga (which is the development center of WOW in Israel).
The company’s website does not reveal details about its technology, but Chips has learned that the latest 5D Sensing sensor includes 2D NIR technologies with the addition of 3D flash ToF. All of these together create 5-dimensional sensing technologies that represent advanced computer vision capabilities that have not existed until now. The main market to which the company is targeting is smart and safe city applications. According to the company, another advantage in its product is a new generation of cameras that leads to significant savings in installation and maintenance costs. The 5D Sensing sensor combines ultra-low light sensing capability, night vision and 3D vision all in one sensor. The result is a new generation of cameras that has great advantages over existing generations and additional minimal cost.
5D Sensing is still in the product development stages and it is not yet clear whether it has raised money from investors. She recently joined the special program of the American Silicon Catalyst initiative that allows start-up companies to receive development tools and manufacturing services free of charge. This is probably the first Israeli company in the program and the combination of skin and tendon cream thanks to the work of two Silicon Catalyst representatives in Israel, Danny Biran and Moshe Salzberg.
